'You Say Budgi, I Say Woi' is a difficult painting to write about. It documents a very personal and emotional night with my family in the beautiful eponymous town. It looks a little bit like the roar of cicadas that decorated that day. The visual echo of Bacon and Henson distorts the love and comraderie that I recall but speaks directly to the transience of the night and the darkness surrounding bright moments.
