Car Body

Brontë Naylor

Car Body, 2024 oil on canvas 134 x 194 cm

‘Car Body’ aims to push through the ends and edges of memory, love and mourning. I often use symbols of urban ruin to illustrate these ideas and how they resonate within myself and on a wider scale, using creased, buckled metal as an extension of bodily folds of flesh. In abstracting the work enough to remind one of a nostalgic film strip, the central black orb acts as a ‘blind spot’, and asks viewers to contemplate their own blind spots in perceiving time, love, and landscape.
