The Earth Melts Away, 2024 charcoal and sandpaper on paper, mounted on custom wooden stand 151 x 100 x 100 cmTwo figures in a tangle of arms and legs—fighting, wrestling, embracing, resting. An image of the mental grappling and internal battles artists face. This tension mirrors my practice: a struggle between control and surrender. As a headstrong choleric, I tackle projects headfirst with grit and persistence.
But I realised that ‘Resolve’ and ‘Resolution’ stem from solvere—“to lose, release, unyoke; set free.” Perhaps the lesson is to rely less on force and embrace what lies beyond my grasp.
